Old Norse is a fascinating language that can be studied for its connections to the Eddas, Icelandic sagas, and as the predecessor of Scandinavian tongues. It also played a significant role in shaping English due to the Viking presence in the British Isles. However, understanding Old Norse can be challenging, as its words often have vague or misleading connections and its grammar is more complex compared to its modern relatives. This is where Liberation Philology Old Norse can assist.
Liberation Philology Old Norse offers a convenient way to practice your Old Norse vocabulary and grammar through a rolling multiple-choice test that can be accessed on your phone whenever you have spare time. With each answer you provide, you receive immediate feedback confirming or correcting your response, which helps reinforce your knowledge through repetition.
The app comprises:

 <li>Vocabulary: Consisting of 335 levels that test your ability to translate ten words between English and Old Norse. Throughout the levels, there are also cumulative reviews to reinforce previous learning, resulting in a total of 377 levels.</li>
 <li>Nouns: A section dedicated to testing your ability to parse and decline all types of Old Norse nouns.</li>
 <li>Pronouns: A section that focuses on examining the declension of Old Norse pronouns.</li>
 <li>Verbs: A comprehensive test of your ability to parse and conjugate Old Norse verbs in different tenses, moods, and voices. This section has been revised and expanded in 2020.</li>

In addition to these modules, there is an informative Reference section that allows you to review the word list for the vocabulary test, as well as the paradigms for nouns, verbs, and pronouns.
